Did you delete your previous post? In any case, let me respond. When will you admit that the old IPB is dead. Those guys don't care about anything but themselves. They look for posts to promote themselves. Many don't even come to the board anymore. They have more pressing things to do than give back to IPB. The new order is Indopaksports like what is happening in Dallas and Florida. Where players can show off their talents to more than 10 teams, where people have passion for the game. You saw it in Dallas with the B league and the football. Throw in other sports like volleyball and soccer and now you are in front of over 50 teams in a given weekend.

You yourself tried to get a 30 and over tournament for the same people you still have faith in and what happened. You had to cancel the tournament because IPB as is is just not important to them.

I ask you to promote the Indopaksports concept and lets bring our community together through sports and not just basketball. Those guys don't care anymore.

Ice, The goal of this new format is to try and bring the #1 goal of IPB back front and center. Which is to help IPB Basketball Players build friendships with other IPB basketball players from around North America. You complain about "Super Teams" this will eliminate Super Teams and actually even the playing field where each "New" team of 7 will have to work together as a team in bracket play to build chemistry to make the playoffs. The top level talent will be distributed among the 12 teams. This should also help solve the problem of people not watching the games since members of the original team will stick around to watch and support those teammates play on the new teams. Also it will help get the board buzzing again leading up to the tournament since all player bios and picks will be posted and done before the tournament on the board. I don't think IPB should be afraid to try something new. If it doesn't work out IPB teams still have Chicago, Dallas, Toronto, Vancouver, and NY tournaments that they can attend afterwards with their original teams and go back to the old format. Now, as far as old IPB vs new IPB I dont see much difference as far as participation of players. Leading up to Dallas the board was buzzing a little, but after the tournament very little was posted by the "New" players who participated. Not even a simple thank you by these new teams that came out and attended!! That is sad. Same thing as far as watching the games go it was the usual size crowd that would come and watch the games. You talk about the passion of playing the game. The guys who are for trying this new format are definitely playing for the "Love" of the game and the spirit of IPB, since they just want to play and don't mind playing with new players to try and win a Championship and building new friendships...wouldn't you agree? As far as being able to hold multiple sports at one tournament, its great that Dallas and Florida have the facilities and the manpower to pull it off and I hope more and more teams come out to participate. But not all tournaments have the facilities you have and we do the best with what we have just like all other tournaments do. I hope you come out to DC and help support the tournament format if we do go for this new format.

First let me apologize for jumping the gun, because I think it's great to try new things and think outside the box. You have presented some good points that have validity but I offer my counter.

1) The tournament is limited to 84 players so in one way, you go away from the Super team, but in reality you create 12 super teams.

2) The concept of team and practicing and working hard to win is thrown right out the window. Teams can't run systems, it becomes a glorified pick up game.

3) The concept of building IPB is limited to 84 players who are probably the same 84 who would have been there in the first place. What happens to the other 30-40 players who would be on teams had you not use this format.

4) Coaches like myself, Matt, Sterling, and Yourself, what is there to gain for us to spend money to travel to the tournament and have in reality no impact on the game because it's a glorified pick up game. Players don't need coaches in pickup ball.


Now to address some of yoru comments:

1) Instead of this discussion web, at least 20 of the 34 total teams contacted me after the tournament through email and facebook. Almost every B team did, but not as many A teams but still many did. So I am Ok with that feedback.

2) I agree on the resources and I agree that we are blessed with the opportuites that we have to offer, but that doesn't mean it can't be done in other sites. I just don't think any of the other cooridinators want to do it as they prefer to not take risks and stay with what works for them now. THis year, we knew it was risky to have multiple sports, but the opportunity to bring more people together in a community setting was worth the risk. Sonu and I went on 3 hour sleep, but it was worth it.

3) When you practice and earn your spot in the tournament, there is a sense of self reward and accomplishment. That is what si missing in IPB. When IPB was at it's strongest, it was that effort that made the reward special. Teams didn't just go out and get the best players from teams all over the US and claim superiority. They worked for their championship and when they won, there was a feeling of accomplishment. Now, teams are made up of merceneries who go to the highest bidder.

Entire IPB teams would create bonds with each other. They would work and sacrifice together. We don't have that anymore. We need to get that passion back.
